What Do the Scriptures Teach About the Messiah?
The following section is provided by Congregation Yeshuat Yisrael (Tennessee)
Midrash Tanhuma (1989 - KTAV, pp. 166-67); John 6:14; 7:40-42
A prophet will the L-RD thy G-D raise up unto thee, from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken.
Pereq Shalom, p. 101; Yemenite Midrash, 349-350; Matthew 1:21; 2:1-11; 21:2-5; 22:42-45; 25:31-34; 27:11; 27:37; Luke 2:21; 19:37-38; 42-44; John 1:1; 18; 49; 5:19; 10:30; 12:13-16; 14:27; 16:33; 18:33-39; 20:28; Acts 10:36; Romans 5:1; 1 Corinthians 15:24-28; Ephesians 2:14-17; Hebrews 1:8; Revelation 17:14; 19:16; 22:16
A child is born will be born to us, a son will be given to us; and the dominion will be upon his shoulder, and his name will be called "Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty G-D, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace." The dominion will be increased and of peace there will be no end. Upon the throne of David and upon his kingdom, to establish it and uphold it in justice and righteousness from henceforth and forever...

A Shoot will come forth out of the stock of Jesse, and a twig shall from his roots: And the spirit of the L-RD shall rest upon him, a spirit of wisdom and understanding, a spirit of counsel and might, a spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the L-RD. And his delight shall be in the fear of the L-RD, and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, and not after the hearing of his ears shall he decide. But he shall judge the poor in righteousness and decide with equity for the meek of the land, and shall smite the land with the rod of his mouth and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.

Who would have believed our report? And to whom hath the L-RD's arm been revealed? For he shot up as a sapling before him, and as a root out of parched earth, he hath neither form nor comeliness that we could see in him; and no appearance that we should desire. He is despised and forsaken of men, a man of pains and acquainted with disease, and as one from whom faces are hidden, despised was he and we esteemed him not. Verily he hath borne our diseases, and our pains; yet we thought him stricken, smitten by G-D, and afflicted. But he was wounded because of our transgressions, he was bruised because of our iniquities; the chastisement of our welfare was upon him, and with his stripes we are healed. All of us like sheep we went astray; each man turned to his own way; and the L-RD inflicted upon him the sins of us all.

"Behold, the days come, saith the L-RD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah; "not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt, forasmuch as they broke My covenant, though I was a lord over them", saith the L-RD. "But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the L-RD, I will put My law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their G-D, and they shall be My people. And they shall teach no more every man his neighbour, and every man his brother, saying, `Know the L-RD,' for they all shall know Me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, says the L-RD; for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more."

And after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and be no more; and the city of the Sanctuary shall be destroyed by a people, a prince who shall come. But his end shall be with a flood. Does G-D have a Son?
Who has ascended into heaven and descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has wrapped the waters in His garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name or His son's name? Surely you know!

Zechariah 12:10
And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one mourns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping over a first-born.
